shovel/funnel out of a jug

There is no point to this really, but the open handle makes me think that it would be really useful to scoop and funnel grain into small containers.  I keep coming back to this image going that would be useful for beer or feeding chickens or ... really not much at all.

I apologize ahead of time, I have a lot of links in my drafts I'm trying to find the bottom of the rabbit hole.

And I really want to build this

Oh make and the things you show me that I don't have time to build.  Adult go karts? Yes, adult go karts that look like old timey hot rods.

So yeah, how much fun would that be?

Video Profile of Doug North

I fancy myself a bit of an artist, and really identify with what the artist featured in this profile says about not yet finding that thing that clicks.  I like some of the mediums that I've worked with, and have aspirations of doing something really interesting with paint, prose, electronics and wood, but I haven't found that thing yet.  I'm an artist in search of his medium.

Rotary Tumbler

I remember from my childhood having a Rock Tumbler[?] when I was a kid and really enjoying the idea of polished stones.  It must have been a fad in the late 80's or early 90's but for some reason I was really into it for about a month, and then the first batch came out of the tumbler and I was all, meh.  What does this all have to do with?  Well make posted a project about making a rotary tumbler from printer parts and I for some reason got all nostalgic and super excited about making one.

During the course of finding a tumbler on Amazon, and reading reviews about tumblers I remembered my own experience and am now sad that everything from my childhood must have actually been really lame.  I'm almost afraid to watch an episode of He Man or god help me The Snorks (oh shit I did just watch an episode there is not god) or any other show that I was obsessed with as a child.

Feel good Science Ted Talk

If you're a fan of mythbusters I think you will appreciate this Ted Talk by Adam Savage. Make posted a great little video for the world to see and I think most people can appreciate a little science peptalk.

Modular Headphones

This came from Make Magazine's blog

I love this concept for headphones, I frequently have one headphone get a loose connection and end up throwing out the headphones because of it. The connectors where the stress points are would be pretty boss for those of us that are little hard on headphones.

What do you think, would you be down for headphones that where modular?

Makezine Blog is excellent

I cannot remember where I first heard about Make the O'reilly backed magazine for tinkerers, but I was excited about subscribing. The magazine started off pretty amazing, but after a few issues I noticed way too many Knitting and sewing projects. It was to my great delight that they made a zine that was dedicated to those type of "crafty" projects that didn't appeal to me as making anything. Still the zine suffers from the challenges of all print media, no linking, video or other interactive content. I subscribe to the zine still, but I think the blog is much better; especially lately. They seem to have hit their stride and attracted several great minds to there group and are now showing amazing incremental projects that can help get bigger projects going. The articles about variable power supply design for a breadboard, and articles on how to protect power supplies are they type of bootstrapping articles that can help people with an interest in electronics, but aren't sure where to start get started.

They have articles about how to pick a microcontroller and even how to get started in circuit design, in all none of this has been covered in the zine, and I don't know that it would be worth printing or nearly as good printed. The richness of the content on the blog is available to anyone and that is the way I think it should be, but the quality of the blog is starting to make the zine feel a little like fluff.

Chumby gets its killer app

I have long had a soft spot in my heart for the Chumby, but just couldn't bring myself to part with my hard earned dollars for the little guy. Really ever since Make featured it a while ago. I loved the idea, it was an interesting toy, but I just couldn't seem to find a use for it.

Enter the recently saved from death Pandora and you have found the killer app for the iPhoneless. Pandora on Chumby = love.
